Joe Zunic is the man responsible for this amazing event. Through ZOONEYFEST, he was able to touch the lives of countless people. Joe's battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, ended on January 4, 2008. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on through ZOONEYFEST. HISTORY: 2005 The journey begins with the first ZOONEYFEST to benefit Joe Zunic. Joe's only requirement was that ZOONEYFEST become a yearly event to help others in need. 2006 The 2nd ZOONEYFEST benefited Gus and Rheda Person of Newark Valley and Greg Slezak of Union Center. 2007 ZOONEYFEST expanded its role in the community by choosing to support a local organization in addition to an individual and their family. We hosted a Blood Drive and made a contribution to the Local Disaster Relief Fund for the American Red Cross, Souther Tier Chapter. Jonathan Brown and his family received financial support for Jon's battle with Leukemia. 2008 ZOONEYFEST continued its effort working with a local organization and an individual by benefiting the Children's home and Elliiot Root, a child with a heart defect. ZOONEYFEST was recognized by the Red Cross for its 2007 efforts and received the Good Neighbor Award for Humanitarian efforts in support of the Red Cross mission. |
